THE STORYLINES

- Vesa Toskala -- With all the changes, starting goaltending is in the spotlight for the Leafs, especially with the Monster waiting in the wings.

- Big D -- Both Mike Komisarek and Francois Beauchemin were former Habs prospects. Tonight they get a first chance to show what they are missing.

- Rebuilt Habs -- A new coach and new players throughout, are the Leafs' rivals rebuilt or rebuilding?

STARTING IN GOAL

Toskala, gave up seven goals in the Leafs' final pre-season game to inflate his save percentage to an awful .861. Carey Price, lost 10 of his last 17 games in the regular season and then was 0-4 in the playoffs. If he doesn't start strong, he'll be torched in Montreal.

HABS NOTES

No captain for the Habs, though new coach Jacques Martin named Andrei Markov, Hal Gill and Brian Gionta alternates. Not exactly a Francophone crew ... Martin, who takes over from Guy Carbonneau, has stressed a defensive approach in pre-season ... New-look Habs include Gill (late of the Stanley Cup champion Pens) Scott Gomez (from the Rangers) and Gionta (from the Devils).
