Four directions to go

MONTREAL -- A look at the Maple Leafs' wish list, in order, heading into the 2009 NHL entry draft tomorrow night at the Bell Centre.

1) Trade up from the No. 7 spot in order to snap up forward John Tavares, whose natural goal-scoring talents have caused GM Brian Burke to compare his skills with those of Hall of Famer Mike Bossy. To date, no luck on that front.

2) Trade up to either No. 4 (Atlanta) or No. 5 (Los Angeles) for a shot at forward Brayden Schenn, brother of defenceman Luke Schenn. Talks with the Kings were scheduled for last night.

3) Stay at No. 7 with the hopes that a player they like is still there. Sources indicate Toronto might not be as high on Spokane's 6-foot-5 gentle giant of a defenceman Jared Cowan, who is ranked No. 7 by the International Scouting Service, as some might think.

4) Trade down and still get a coveted youngster such as Peterborough Petes right winger Zach Kassian, who has been compared with Bruins power forward Milan Lucic. The rugged 6-foot-3 Kassian is ranked 19th by the ISS.

The Vancouver Canucks should replace ex-coach Alain Vigneault with...
  Guy Boucher.
  Lindy Ruff.
  Andy Murray.
  Jacques Martin.
  Brent Sutter.
  Don Hay.
  Other.
