Mikhail Grabovski has apologized to Jason Blake for his actions at practice Monday.

The incident occurred when Grabovski hit Blake from behind during a drill, leading to a scrum that included veteran Jamal Mayers.

A couple of minutes later, Blake skated over to Grabovski and began speaking his mind, causing Tomas Kaberle to come in and calm Blake down.

"I played just a little bit hard," Grabovski said yesterday. "(Blake) is the best player on the team. The next time I will go a little bit slower.

"It's OK. I'm young."

As for his teammates trying to break the two players up, Grabovski replied: "The guys were just trying to help. It's fine."

About 20 minutes later, as Blake was preparing to do a television interview, Grabovski came up behind his teammate, gave him a hug and said: "See. Everything's fine."

Mayers said the incident was no big deal.

"It's over and forgotten," he said. "Sometimes guys are a bit too enthusiastic out there, but everything's fine now."

It was the second time in a month that the two players were involved in a scuffle.

During a workout in February, Blake and Grabovski appeared to collide inadvertently during a drill. A couple of minutes later, Grabovski skated up to the boards and began shoving Blake, leading to an exchange of a couple of punches before teammates broke it up.

OLLIE THE GOALIE

Olaf Kolzig remembers growing up in the Toronto area, where he idolized some of the Maple Leafs players at the time.

"I spent about six years there from the time I was six," Kolzig recalled yesterday. "We lived in Meadowvale. I watched those teams with guys like Darryl Sittler, Borje Salming and Mike Palmateer."

Despite being acquired by the Leafs at the trade deadline, Kolzig likely will never wear a Leafs jersey. As he heals from an arm injury, he admits the odds are that he'll hang up his pads at the end of the season.

"He's a great guy," said fellow Leafs goalie Curtis Joseph. "I hope he gets to come up to Toronto in the next few weeks.

"I'm going to get a Leafs jersey made up for him with his name on the back so he can remember he was a Toronto Maple Leaf, even for a brief time."
