Just another game

The feeling inside the Maple Leafs dressing room yesterday concerning tonight's Battle of Ontario against the Ottawa Senators was overwhelmingly underwhelming.

Probably because the majority of the players on the blue and white have never been through it before.

"We'll approach it as another game," head coach Ron Wilson said. "I don't think a lot of guys understand it. Our guys just have to focus on the little details that we've been stressing in practice. It's irrelevant who we play. We've played a lot of the top teams in the league and you have to fight and scramble for any type of opportunity that you get and Ottawa falls into that category."

TOUGH CROWD

Defenceman Mike Van Ryn, who scored his first goal of the season in the Maple Leafs' 4-2 win in Boston on Thursday, credits his fine play of late with the fact that his chronically sore wrist has been trouble-free, and that he is in great physical condition, largely because of time spent this past summer working out at the Perfect Competition training centre in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., alongside a number of NFL greats, including New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

"It was kind of neat to see how quick the (NFLers) are and to do some speed drills and get absolutely killed by them was great," Van Ryn said with a laugh. "It's a great atmosphere to be around. They've (Perfect Competition) done a real good job helping a lot of us overcome injuries."

PIETRANGELO STILL OUT

Toronto winger Ryan Hollweg has stated that his hit from behind on St. Louis Blues defenceman Alex Pietrangelo on Oct. 13, which resulted in Hollweg being slapped with a three-game suspension, wasn't as bad as it looked.

Pietrangelo, the fourth pick overall in the June draft, returned to the game, but hasn't played since. The word out of St. Louis is the rookie may have suffered a concussion.

He has not skated with the team since the Toronto game and supposedly is a week away from rejoining the Blues for practice.
