The Leafs are 0-2 in shootouts this season, losing against St. Louis on Oct.13 and against the New York Rangers on Friday. Both times, however, rookie forward Nikolai Kulemin scored, and head coach Ron Wilson will no doubt keep using him in those situations.

"Obviously we found a guy in Kulemin. Maybe I should actually have all rookies take (shootouts). They seem to catch on pretty quick around here and I'm going to lean more on younger guys going forward in shootouts because they go up there fearless," he said.

All four veterans who have been used in shootouts this season -- Nik Antropov, Pavel Kubina, Matt Stajan and Jason Blake -- have missed.

The Leafs were 3-4 in shootouts last season.

SAVE AFTER SAVE

Blake is up to his old tricks. The second-year Leafs forward is leading the team in shots with 24, but has only one goal to show for it, a success rate of 4.2%. Last year his goals-to-shots ratio was near the bottom of the league. He had 15 goals on 332 shots (a success ratio of 4.5%) ... The rumour mill is heating up and the names Ian White, who has been a healthy scratch for five games, and Stajan have been whispered prominently.

TUCKS REVISITED

Darcy Tucker is having the most success of the four prominent Leafs from last year's team who have gone elsewhere. In Five games with the Colorado Avalanche, Tucker has a goal and an assist. Kyle Wellwood reported to Vancouver out of a shape, passed a second physical, but then was shipped to the Canucks' AHL farm team, the Manitoba Moose. Defenceman Bryan McCabe is still a week or two away from rejoining the Florida Panthers after suffering a lower back strain and contusion in Florida's opener at Carolina.

Tucker's teammate Andrew Raycroft is 2-0, but has just an .875 save percentage.

STRUGGLING VETS

A couple of veteran Leafs now toiling on the farm are struggling with the Toronto Marlies. Boyd Devereaux has no points in four games and is a minus four, while Mark Bell has one assist in four games.
