Here are the top 10 positives the Maple Leafs can take from their NHL season-opening victory in Detroit:

10) Designated captain Vesa Toskala seems perfect for the role. The C was on only the scoresheet but he earned an A.

9) Dominic Moore is actually the reincarnation of Dickie Moore.

8) The Leafs are clearly in a tougher conference. The Westerners are pushovers.

7) Crap, the Leafs actually won!

6) They have 81 games to get even better.

5) No Leafs player McCabered the puck into his own net or tripped over it.

4) No Leafs player Tuckered out the refs with incessant whining.

3) Nikolai (Lulu) Kulemin is the leading rookie-of-the-year candidate.

2) New listeria samples discovered were not in the Maple Leaf dressing room.

1) The NHL can get a discount by engraving the names now on the Stanley Cup.

SHY ABOUT SHANIA

Hey, Cujo, you old dog, whose bed have your boots been under?

Maple Leafs backup goalie Curtis Joseph hasn't confirmed or denied that he and singer Shania Twain are an item.

If it's true, it raises a curious question: Given that her ex-husband is named Mutt, does Shania date only hounds? If so, that don't impress me much.

A HOME FOR THE BEES

So, who has the coolest locks: The Raptors' Chris Bosh or the Los Angeles Dodgers' Manny Ramirez?

Bosh's hairdo seems much more stylish. Rambunctious ManRam has cleaned his up since leaving the Boston Red Sox, but he has to shake that Sarah Palinesque flip-top at the back. Guess, in Alaska, it passes for hockey hair.

JERSEYS MILKED

Here's a news alert: Jerseys of European NBA players are popular sellers in Europe, according to the league.

The NBA does a good PR job regarding sales of paraphernalia that the media sometimes fall for.

Next month, the NBA will release its figures for the top 10 jersey sales in Asia. In December, it will announce figures for jersey sales on a Tuesday in North America.
