How much stock do the the Maple Leafs have in Luke Schenn? Enough to have three members of the hockey department watch the prized defenceman at this week's Team Canada world junior team evaluation camp in Ottawa.

"He's the highest pick we've had at this camp in a long time and so far he has acquitted himself well," said Leafs amateur scouting director Dave Morrison, who is joined by player development director Dallas Eakins and player personnel boss Al Coates.

"Sometimes you worry that a veteran (of Team Canada) would take his foot off the gas here, but that's not an issue with Luke. (Seeing him in inter-squad action), we just want to make sure he's on the right track, playing his game."

The Leafs also were delighted when stringbean forward Chris DiDomenico received an invite to Ottawa. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder from Woodbridge had 95 points with Saint John in the QMJHL last year.

"He's thin right now, but wiry strong," Morrison said. "He's one of the lowest drafted kids here (164th overall in 2007) and we're curious to see how he does."
