Homecoming for Boudreau

LANCE HORNBY -- Sun Media

No doubt Bruce (Gabby) Boudreau is looking forward to this week's home-and-home with the Leafs. The new coach of the Washington Capitals played 134 games in Toronto between 1976-77 and 1982-83 with 69 points.

The Toronto-born Boudreau began with the junior Marlies in 1972 and didn't hang up his blades until the 1992 AHL playoffs with the Adirondack Red Wings.

What number did he wear with the Leafs? It would drive trivia buffs nuts as he sported six different two-digit combos as a Leaf (11, 12, 17, 19, 28, 35), tying Darryl Shannon and Don Metz for the team record. Then there's centre Fred Perlini, who played eight games in the early 1980s and wore five different numbers.

LEAFS SALUTE FORCES

The Leafs are asking their season's subscribers to donate tickets to Canadian Forces personnel for the Feb. 2 game against the Ottawa Senators, as a way of thanking men and women in the service.

"We've already had a couple of hundred people do it," said Nancy Gilks, manager of The Leafs Fund and Community Relations.

Those wishing to give up their tickets for the night should go to torontomapleleafs.com for details.

The Leafs are donating gondola space and some companies, including the Toronto Sun, are donating a private box. General Rick Hillier and members of the forces will be participating in a pre-game ceremony, including a rapelling exercise from the ACC rafters.

LOOSE LEAFS

Marlie callup Darryl Boyce remains with the team, presumably to get in one of the games against the Caps ... Darcy Tucker has six goals, but the Leafs record when he scores is 2-5-3. They are 10-2-3 when Matt Stajan gets a point ... After four games in six nights, the players were given yesterday off.
