Kubina 'probable' after wallpapering
Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice said defenceman Pavel Kubina is "probable" for Tuesday's home date with the Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Centre.
Kubina left last night's 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers early in the third period after being wallpapered into the glass by Blair Betts.
While the Leafs refused to identify the ailment, observers said Kubina could be heard yelling "(Bleep) me!"as he entered the dressing room in obvious pain.
Alexei Ponikarovsky scored both Leaf goals last night, those coming in a two-minute span late in the second period.
"I've played with Mats (Sundin) for a three or four years now, so I'm comfortable on his line," he said.
Ponikarovsky is not a big fan of the shootout.
"I don't like seeing games decided like that but what can you do?" he said.
Lest We Forget
The pre-game ceremonies featured a moving Remembrance Day tribute involving both war vets and soldiers who had recently returned from Afganistan.
"My father-in-law fought, as well as a number of other friends and family members," GM John Ferguson Jr. said. "It's a time to remember those who fought for our freedoms."
HOW SWEDE IT IS
Henrik Lundqvist is not surprised at the success Mats Sundin is still enjoying at age 36.
Lundqvist and Sundin were teammates with the Swedish national team in 2006 when the Tre Kroner won the Olympic gold medal by beating the rival Finns in the final at the Turin, Italy winter games.
"I can still remember his first game with the national team," Lundqvist said. "I was pretty young. He scored a hat trick against Russia. I remember watching on TV thinking" 'This guy is really good.'"
HOW 'BOUT DEM COWBOYS
The Maple Leafs are scheduled to have a special treat during their upcoming trip to Dallas and Phoenix.
On U.S. Thanksgiving, which falls on Nov. 22, the Leafs are scheduled to watch the annual Turkey Day classic in Big D, this time featuring the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets.
The team will watch the NFL tilt from a swank private box before taking on the Dallas Stars the following day.
