Maple Leafs' medical woes

Non-hockey health issues have taken a toll on the Leafs the past seven years before Jason Blake was diagnosed with leukemia:

2000 - Top draft pick Luca Cereda discovered he had a childhood heart ailment while playing for St. John's.

2001 -- Wendy Sittler, wife of former captain Darryl Sittler and a dedicated charity worker, died of colon cancer.

2002 -- Assistant coach Keith Acton was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He survived and returned to work.

2002 -- Defenceman Dmitry Yushkevich was found to have a thrombosis condition. He returned to the ice eventually.

2002 -- Defenceman Karel Pilar suffers from a viral infection affecting his heart. He now is in the Blackhawks organization.

2004 -- Former coach Pat Burns is diagnosed with colon cancer. He has not been able to return to the NHL.

2007 -- Former NHL player and executive John Ferguson Sr., father of the Leafs' GM, passes away from cancer.
