A look at some on the candidates on the outside looking in who are attempting to squeeze onto the Leafs roster.

F Simon Gamache: One on the biggest surprises at camp ... Has worked well on a line with Matt Stajan and Alex Steen ... Has exhibited nifty hands around the net.

F Jiri Tlusty: Enjoying his second consecutive impressive camp ... Speed is the forte of the Leafs' first-round pick on '06 ... Likely will end up with Marlies rather than Sault Ste. Marie in the OHL in he doesn't make the Leafs.

F Tony Salmelainen: Has exhibited flashes on his raw talents but has not distinguished himself to this point ... His NHL experience might give him a bit on an edge.

F Ben Ondrus: Feisty forward is the poster child for gritty players ... Always has stepped in competently whenever beckoned from the farm by the Leafs.

D Andy Wozniewski: Has made the team the past two years only to be felled by injuries ... Leafs like his size and his smarts ... If only he could stay out on the trainers' room.

D Staffan Kronwall: Another defenceman the Leafs have had high hopes for the past two years ... Seems to be hurt a lot, which has been a detriment to his development ... Like Wozniewski, he is a towering defenceman with some offensive skills.

D Anton Stralman: Wowed observers at rookie camp in Kitchener. But a bout of bronchitis has kept him out on training camp workouts thus far ... Will accompany team on its trip west to Edmonton and Winnipeg.

D Jay Harrison: Always seems to be down on the depth chart, but was very impressive during his stint with the Leafs in 2005-06 ... Will anchor the Marlies' blue line if he doesn't make the Leafs.

D Bryan Muir: Veteran 34-year-old defenceman inked tryout deal with Leafs last week ... Looked solid in Blue-White game Sunday ... Has 53 points in 279 career NHL games.
