WASHINGTON -- Maple Leafs defenceman Ian White acknowledged last night he is facing a charge of driving while disqualified.

"I'm going to issue a statement (at some point)," White said. "We're still working it out. There will be something formal."

White was stopped by police in Toronto on Saturday and charged. The 22-year-old native of Steinbach, Man., lost his driver's licence after he was convicted in September of impaired driving, CTV News reported last night.

When asked if he would consider entering the NHL's rehab program, White said: "It was just driving with a suspended licence."

On the ice, White is averaging nearly 21 minutes of ice time a game.
