The Maple Leafs will take some of their spare cash and make good use of it.

The club has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The gathering will include an announcement of a partnership with Hockey Canada and the Hall that will see a few million dollars go to the country's governing hockey body.

"It's going to extend a partnership to a level that should have a big impact on hockey," Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson said.

Nicholson refused to divulge specific numbers. It's thought money will be earmarked for scholarships on a national level and for skill development and other grassroots initiatives.

The Leafs will announce other details of the facility that will be built in Etobicoke near its present practice rink, Lakeshore Lions Arena. Hockey Canada will have offices in the new building, slated to open in 2008. The Hall of Fame will have some of its archives and resources based there.
