If Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson decides to buy out the contract of Tie Domi, it will be done in the next nine days.

The period in which Domi can be bought out begins tonight and ends at 5 p.m. on June 30. Had the Stanley Cup final concluded before June 15, the period would have kicked in then. But with the final going past June 15, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the final buzzer of the final game. That was at approximately 10:45 on Monday night, when the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers.

There has been speculation, meanwhile, that Bryan McCabe could sign his new contract, one which he apparently agreed to three weeks ago, by the end of the week.
