Wilm upset to miss game as a healthy scratch

MONTREAL -- To the surprise of many, a disgruntled Tie Domi kept his mouth shut yesterday.

Not so for Clarke Wilm.

The two Maple Leafs veterans yesterday found themselves healthy scratches for the second consecutive game, roster decisions that did not sit well with either player.

But while the normally chatty Domi opted to keep his frustration bottled up inside, Wilm had no problem vocalizing his disgust with the move.

"Am I (angry) that I'm not playing? You bet," Wilm said yesterday after participating in the Leafs morning skate at the Bell Centre.

"I don't know what else to say. I think that pretty much says it all."

Dubbed the TCB Line by Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun, the Domi-Wilm-Ben Ondrus unit had been playing well and arguably was coach Pat Quinn's best combination during a 5-4 shootout win over the Boston Bruins 10 days ago.

LOOK AT ONDRUS, SUGLOBOV

But Quinn and the coaching staff wanted to take a longer look at Ondrus and gifted offensive prospect Alexander Suglobov, who was acquired this month from the New Jersey Devils for veteran defenceman Ken Klee.

Whatever the team's motivation, Wilm can not figure out why the TCB line was ripped apart.

"I thought we did our job," the gritty forward said. "I thought we worked well together.

"I just cannot understand why we would be broken up like this."

Quinn's rationalization for the moves was to inject some offensive zest in the lineup, something he figured Suglobov might bring to the table. But the struggling younger found himself riding the pines for much of the second period of the Leafs' 5-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens last night.

"Nobody likes to sit. I understand that," Quinn said.

"Is it the right (decision)? I'm not sure.

"Are they frustrated? I'm sure they are.

"But we feel this might give us more scoring. We're making decisions for now, not the future."

Will Domi and Wilm be back in the lineup tomorrow after the disappointing result last night?

"I don't know who you're supposed to bring in," Quinn said. "Those guys were sitting because they weren't doing the job either."
