Alfredsson's not so bad?

Mats Sundin is scoring more and he might have one of the Leafs' most bitter rivals to thank for it.

During the Olympics in Turin, where Sundin regained his confidence with eight points in as many games helping Sweden to the gold medal, he borrowed a stick from Ottawa Senators' Daniel Alfredsson. The same one who gets booed every time he touches the puck.

Sundin found the lie of Alfredsson's stick similar to an older model he had used and continued the switch when he came back in the National Hockey League. He now has 10 points in seven games, including two goals on Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.

"I don't think my game has changed, but I'm shooting more," Sundin said.

But because Alfredsson's stick is from a rival company, Sundin has had to black out the brand name on the shaft to avoid endorsement contract hassles.

GOALIE GO-ROUND

Had the Leafs wanted to do some more roster shuffling yesterday, they could have sent emergency callup Jean-Sebastien Aubin back to the Marlies for last night's game here against Hamilton and continued on a three-game trip today with him backing Mikael Tellqvist.

But with Ed Belfour's back woes, general manager John Ferguson is not taking chances.

"If we didn't feel Ed's situation was (so uncertain) we wouldn't have had Aubin here," Ferguson said.

Defenceman Andy Wozniewski (shoulder) is out another couple of weeks. Defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo (concussion) dropped by Lakeshore Lions Arena yesterday, but his return date after close to two months of slow recovery is uncertain.

"We had some good news the past few days," Ferguson said, without elaborating. "We're working toward normal activity with the obvious goal of progressing to more vigourous (workouts) and later, a return to competitive play."

LOOSE LEAFS

Tellqvist needs two more wins to reach 10, which would make himself and Ed Belfour just the third Leafs goaltending tandem in 19 years to reach double figures. The others were Curtis Joseph and Corey Schwab (2001-02), Felix Potvin had Grant Fuhr (1992-93) and Ken Wregget and Allan Bester (1986-87).
