With Jason Allison and Eric Lindros playing as well as they have been for theMaple Leafs, it has quieted at least for now the doubters who were worried about the health of the two when they were signed by general manager John Ferguson during the summer.

"When we got them, Iread that a lot of people were complaining about how we could lose the players we did," said defenceman Ken Klee, referring to forwards Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyk and Alex Mogilny. "We picked up three all-stars in my opinion (Lindros, Allison and Jeff O'Neill). A guy like (O'Neill), you have to take him when you can. As far as Eric and Jason go, they are big horses. They're tough to control, especially with the new rules."

DARCY DOES IT

Darcy Tucker's willingness to put his nose wherever he has to in order to get his job done is leaving a positive impression on Allison.

"He wears his heart on his sleeve," Allison said. "He's a real firecracker out there and he is a great guy to have on your team. He just (ticks) people off."

HULL GOES QUIET

While the NHL will miss the talents of Brett Hull, whether they were slipping recently or not, also gone is one of the game's most outspoken voices.

"He has an opinion, and he was always noted for that," said Leafs goalie Ed Belfour, who was on the 1999 Dallas Stars Stanley Cup title club with Hull."He was not afraid to speak what his thoughts were, and that's what made Hully."

Belfour always will hold Hull in high regard.

"He scored the goal that won us the Stanley Cup and I'll never forget that," Belfour said. "It was the first and only Cup I have ever won so I am thankful."

BRIEFLY

Belfour is creeping up on yet another milestone. With his 437th NHL win against the Canadiens on Saturday, Belfour is 10 behind Terry Sawchuk for second on the career list. Patrick Roy is first with 550. The next active goalie after Belfour is Martin Brodeur, who has 405 ... When the Philadelphia Flyers visit on Saturday night, they will have gone a week without playing a game.
