In the wake of Mats Sundin's horrific eye injury last week, the debate over mandatory visor use has flared up yet again.

Now NHL players are about to let their thoughts be known on the issue.

According to Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, a member of the NHLPA's executive committee, a vote will take place this week concerning the possible implimentation of face shield requirements.

"This is just my personal opinion but I think it would be good to see it grandfathered in,"Alfredsson said. "Every one in junior wears them so why not?"

Alfredsson has not yet had the opportunity to speak with Sundin, his teammate on many occasions with the Swedish national team.

"I heard (the injury) could have been a lot worse ,"Alfredsson said. "At least I understand he has a chance to make a full recovery and that's great.

PETER THE GREAT

If anyone knows just how magical Peter Forsberg can be with the puck, it's Maple Leafs rookie Alex Steen.

During the ugly NHLlockout of 2004-05, Forsberg and Steen were teammates with MODO of the Swedish elite league. In fact, The Superstar and The Kid were actually linemates for about seven games.

Tonight, however, friend becomes foe -- for at least three hours anyway -- when Forsberg's Philadelphia Flyers take on the Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.

"He's a great guy, very humble, down to earth, and loves to have fun,"Steen said.

Oh yeah. He's not bad out on the ice either.

"He's an incredible player,"Steen said."First I played with him last year, now it's going to be fun to play against him.

"The plays he makes out there are unreal. With him, you always expect the unexpected."

Like what, for example?

"He just finds the smallest holes to give you a passes. He really helps open the ice for you.

"He made me feel right at home."
