Mogilny gets hip cheque

Winger Alex Mogilny remains on the Maple Leafs payroll as he continues re-hab from a second hip surgery.

"He's taking treatment in the Toronto area, but he's not close (to playing shape)," general manager John Ferguson said.

Because the original condition and surgery occured during the 2003-04 season, Mogilny is entitled to his full $5.5 million US salary during the lockout.

Goaltender Ed Belfour was cleared in the past few days after summer back surgery. He'd collected more than $1 million of his $6 million. Agent Ron Salcer said last week Belfour would now seek some game situations, though not yet in a competitive league.

"There are many ways for him to get in some work," Salcer said. "There are a lot of present and former Leafs working out in the Toronto area."

FREE SKATE AT ACC

The Air Canada Centre will be open for free public skating today, in 45-minute sessions beginning at 9 a.m., with the last starting at 8 p.m.
