Vinny Prospal’s heart just isn’t in it anymore.
A day after he was offered a professional tryout with the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate Utica Comets, the 38-year-old has instead chosen to hang up his skates.
“After further thought and talking with his family, Vinny Prospal has informed the Canucks that he’s retiring and won’t be joining Utica on a PTO,” the Canucks announced Thursday on Twitter.
Prospal told Vancouver radio station News 1130 he realized after his first practice with Utica he no longer had the heart and passion required to play in the NHL.
A 16-year veteran, Prospal racked up 255 goals and 510 assists in 1108 games with the Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
