NHL notes: Canadiens, Lightning swap goalies Dustin Tokarski, Cedrick Desjardins
By QMI Agency
Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins is heading to familiar territory after being traded Thursday by the Montreal Canadiens for fellow netminder Dustin Tokarski.
Desjardins returns to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won his only two NHL appearances during the 2010-11 season.
Desjardins was 7-13-2 with a 2.94 GAA in 22 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL this season.
Tokarski has played seven NHL games during his career, sporting a record of 1-3-1 with a 3.54 GAA.
Tokarski, 23, has played 33 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch since the start of the 2012-13 season, and posted a 2.46 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. The Saskatchewan native had been with the Tampa Bay organization since being picked in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL draft.
BIG JUMP IN NHL TICKET PRICES
NHL fans are shelling out more for tickets during a season scaled back by a labour dispute, according to a report.
And Team Marketing Report, a sports marketing research firm, says that NHL teams have implemented a larger ticket percentage increase than the NFL and NBA for the second straight season.
The firm found that season-ticket prices for all 30 NHL teams rose 5.7% to $61.01, based on the average price for non-premium seats. The NBA's average ticket increased 3.5% to $50.99 and the NFL's rose 2.5% to $78.38.
The company will not release the 2013 MLB ticket average until the start of the season.
In the previous season, the NHL raised prices by 4.8%, while the NBA (1.7%), NFL (1.2%) and MLB (1.2% for 2011 season) had lower increases.
The higher prices haven't hurt sales as the NHL had an average attendance of 17,652, or 1.1% more than last season's average of 17,455 through Feb. 12, according to the report.
