SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks have signed a one-year contract with centre Scott Gomez on Wednesday.

The deal is reportedly worth $700,000.

Gomez, who played the last couple of seasons with the Montreal Canadiens had been one of two high-profile players with large salary-cap hits to be victims of the lowered cap for next season, along with defenceman Wade Redden, who signed a one-year, $800,000 deal with the St. Louis Blues last Friday.

The 33-year-old Anchorage native totaled six goals and 13 points in 11 games for the Alaska Aces in the ECHL during the lockout. Last season, Gomez recorded 11 points in 38 games for the Canadiens.

It is not known if Gomez will make his Sharks' debut Thursday night, when they play their home opener against Phoenix.
