League-leading, fun-loving Sharks stay competitive
By STEVE MACFARLANE, SUN MEDIA
With the Pacific Division wrapped up, the Sharks have barely a care -- except for the title of Athletic Decathlon Champion. Friendly banter between centre Joe Thornton and goalie Brian Boucher has morphed into a full-fledged competition. "We were rating guys bodies. I think I gave him a six or something like that," Boucher said after yesterday's morning skate at the Saddledome before the Sharks took on the Flames in Calgary. "He was devastated. "It turned into, 'Let's see who's the better athlete.' " Boucher is off to an 0-2-1 start in the 10-event contest, losing in table tennis, golf and settling for a controversial tie in timed push-ups. "I think quietly people would be really happy if I won," Boucher said. "He's an all-star. I'm a backup." Great not to be a Leaf St. Louis Blues D Carlo Colaiacovo, who was hurt more than he was healthy during his Maple Leafs tenure, says he is far better off being out of Toronto. "Don't get me wrong," he said yesterday. "I loved being a Leaf. But I went through a lot in Toronto ... I just think it was time to move on. "Every day in Toronto, I'd be reminded of my past," added Colaiacovo. The Blues are 29-22-7 since the trade four months ago and sit in eighth in the Western Conference. STEVE.MACFARLANE@SUNMEDIA.CA |
