SAN JOSE - Veteran savvy to create a distraction in times of trouble.

Pot calling out the kettle.

Call it what you want, but Vancouver Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa added fire to his team's NHL Western Conference quarterfinal by calling out San Jose Sharks forwards Logan Couture and Joe Thornton for embellishing infractions.

“These are two guys who are supposed to be playing the game with integrity,” Bieksa said Monday, his team one game away from being swept in the best-of-seven series.

“Couture has been snapping his head back. This isn't my opinion. The evidence is in the video. Hank (Henrik Sedin) touches him off the faceoff, he does a full back arch and his glove goes flying off in the corner.

“Thornton, another so-called Canadian, is supposed to play the game with integrity. He gets slashed, he takes his glove off and shakes his hand. The ref takes a couple of seconds to look at that and makes a call. That’s a critical time in the game when we go down two men.

“Those are two Canadian guys who are supposed to be playing the game with integrity. Maybe our team has to do more of that. Maybe we have to try and sell calls.”
