VANCOUVER - Those family ties need to be gagged.

Not only is Daniel Sedin unable to suit up for the Vancouver Canucks playoff series opener versus the Los Angeles Kings, but the team had to deal with the fact his father, Tommy, told a Swedish website the concussed star hasn't recovered.

“It is wrong to play now,” Tommy Sedin told Allehanda.se.

Sedin missed the final nine regular season games after being elbowed in the face by Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Duncan Keith — who received a five-game suspension.

He practised fully on Monday and skated Tuesday with a handful of players after the main practice.

However, he wasn’t in the morning skate and coach Alain Vigneault said he wouldn’t play in the series opener.

”There’s nothing new to report. He’s not going to play tonight,” Vigneault said.

Mason Raymond was skating on the Canucks top line with Henrik Sedin and Alex Burrows.

“Yesterday I warned Hank. This morning, I warned Hank to warn his father and mother,” Vigneault said. “I only forgot to mention the two brothers, so maybe if you guys want to call the two brothers, you might get another story.”

Henrik Sedin said after the morning practice he hadn’t heard of the report quoting his father.

“I’m real happy talking about the guys playing tonight. That’s the only thing I’m going to talk about,” the Canucks captain said.

Vigneault wasn’t amused about the situation.

“I’m not going to discuss what his father said, if the information is totally true. I’m not going to get into that,” he said. “We’ve got the total picture. We know what’s going on and we’re not sharing that. It’s not information that needs to be shared.”
