Canucks fans aren't just making noise at the rink, their cheers are also shaking things up online.

During Wednesday night's playoff opener at GM Place, Vancouver fans pushed the word "Canucks" into the top three trends being used on social networking service Twitter.

Twitter is "pretty hardcore" with Canuck fans, Virgin Radio host and online guru Buzz Bishop wrote to 24 hours.

"I was at the kitchen table with the Macbook open to Twitter and the game in the living room. Even though I was alone, there were still dozens of 'great save,' 'what a hit'... tweets going by. It gave a huge sense of community."

Community is a key word to Canucks presence on Twitter. Just ask Richard Loat, better known as mozy19 online. Loat hosted an NHL-endorsed "Tweet-Up", attracting more than a dozen rabid fans who met up and watched the game together.

"Canucks activity on Twitter has gone through the roof," he told 24 hours. "It mirrors the increased excitement you see at the games."
