ANAHEIM, Calif. -- It was deja vu for "Bobby Lu."

A tired Roberto Luongo allowed three Anaheim Ducks' goals on nine shots last night in the first period of a 5-1 Vancouver Canucks' loss to open the Western conference semifinal.

The Ducks also beat Luongo three times on nine shots in a 6-0 win at Vancouver last November.

"We were getting into penalty troubles again and we lost our groove," Luongo said.

"I don't think the effort was really that bad, but we've got to change a few things for the next game."

The Canucks led 1-0 on Jeff Cowan's unassisted goal. Andy McDonald scored his first of three on a power play after Vancouver was cited for too many men.

McDonald fed Teemu Selanne for the go-ahead goal and Selanne reciprocated when he set up McDonald's goal with 48.9 seconds left in the first.

Dany Sabourin replaced Luongo after Ryan Getzlaf made it 4-1 midway through the third. McDonald completed the hat trick with 51.8 seconds left.

The Canucks missed Matt Cooke (groin), Sami Salo (flu) and Kevin Bieksa (unknown).

Game 2 is tomorrow at 7 p.m. (Team 1040, CBC and cbcsports.ca).
