Elliott injury solves Blues' goalie debate
By QMI AGENCY
An injury to Brian Elliott may have taken the decision about who would start Game 1 of the playoffs out of the hands of St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock.
The Blues listed Elliott as day-to-day with an upper-body injury Tuesday, two days before they are to open their first-round playoff series with the San Jose Sharks. Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Elliott has been nursing the injury for "a week."
That would appear to make Jaroslav Halak the de facto starter Thursday. And to appease all those conspiracy theorists out there who might believe the Elliott injury is a ploy, Jake Allen was called up from Peoria of the AHL on an emergency basis.
But, wait, there's another twist.
"(Elliott) is fine to play, so that's not an issue," he said. "He's nursing something that's going to take a day or two to be 100%. But now, if the game started tomorrow and I decided on him, he's a player."
Hmmm, more mind games from Hitchcock?
