SAN JOSE - While the decision wasn’t easy for San Jose coach Todd McLellan, Ryane Clowe, who took a skate Thursday morning at HP Pavilion, was in the lineup against the Detroit Red Wings in the final game of the Western semifinal.
McLellan said they didn’t want to take any risks but made the decision just before game time.
“First of all, it’s important that we take care of the individual as far as health goes. We don’t want to put him in a situation where we run that risk,” said McLellan. “Secondly, obviously in Game 7 it’s do or die and we’ve got to play for a win. How does his ability to play the game properly affect us positively or negatively? Then we go from there.”
Detroit winger Johan Franzen, who has been nursing a sore ankle, wasn’t able to return and will miss his second straight game after taking part in the morning skate. Kris Draper dressed for Mike Modano.
