Penguins send plucky Islanders packing with OT win
By CHRIS STEVENSON, QMI Agency
UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The New York Islanders outplayed and out-hustled the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins, but now they are just out.
The Penguins spent most of Saturday night on their heels and behind on the scoreboard thanks to the plucky Islanders’ withering forecheck, but a goal by Pittsburgh defenceman Brooks Orpik on a shot from the point 7:49 into overtime gave them a 4-3 win in Game 6 and a 4-2 series victory over the eighth-seeded Islanders.
Pittsburgh will take on the upstart Ottawa Senators in the second round of the playoffs. Ottawa upset the Montreal Canadiens in five games.
The Penguins were outplayed once again from the drop of the puck — as they have been through most of this series — and were fortunate to be tied going into the third.
