PITTSBURGH - Daniel Alfredsson has Grapes in his corner.

Don Cherry, the controversial star of Hockey Night in Canada Coaches Corner on CBC, tweeted before the Senators visit to the Consol Energy Center for Game 5 against the Pittsburgh Penguins he back the Senators’ captain.

Cherry doesn’t like the heat Alfredsson has been getting for saying the Senators can “probably not” come back to win this series after a 7-3 loss in Game 4.

“Singing “what’s it all about Alfy (sic)?” How can anybody question Daniel Afredsson’s dedication to the game? When asked after the game about their chances in Pittsburgh being down 3-1 to the powerful Penguins, Alfy said it doesn’t look good and the odds are against us winning,” wrote Cherry.

“He was saying the truth. What everybody else is thinking. The media jumps on anything and anybody.

"He was a hero one day and now he’s a bad guy because he spoke the truth. Daniel, it’s the old story, they’re either at your feet or your throat. Go get 'em.”

Alfredsson said Friday morning that he won’t take back his comments.

“I didn’t think it was going to get the reaction it did, but I understand it though,” said Alfredsson.
