PITTSBURGH - It was a pass Erik Karlsson has completed 1,000 times before.

After standing behind his own net for a couple of seconds, he finally popped out to his right and sent the puck toward a wide open teammate hovering near the centre ice line. As this was during the third period of his horrific night, Karlsson wasn’t really surprised he missed the target, that his feed bounced off the side boards and went for icing. But he was clearly getting fed up.

The scoreboard camera zoomed in on his face to catch Karlsson sighing and, lip readers would swear, tell goalie Robin Lehner: “I don’t know what’s going on.”

His frustrations reached the boiling point after the game when a Pittsburgh reporter asked him what had happened on Sidney Crosby’s first goal, during which the 2011-12 Norris Trophy winner looked like a pylon.

“Are you blind?” Karlsson snapped, then promptly left the scrum.
