There were two victims from the Game 1 incident that turned the Bell Centre as quiet as a church and left Montreal Canadiens forward Lars Eller with a concussion, plus multiple facial injuries — Eller and, to a lesser extent, Eric Gryba, the Ottawa Senators defenceman who hit him.

While he didn't speak to the media either before or after the NHL handed him a two-game suspension Friday, Gryba's teammates expressed how terrible he felt about Eller getting hurt.

"He's such a good kid," said Ottawa blue liner Marc Methot. "You know he feels bad, you can see it in his demeanour right now."

Gryba, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 222 pounds, has a clean record in this, his rookie NHL season. In 33 regular-season games, he had only 26 penalty minutes, with no fights. Most of his time in the box was for hooking, holding or interference infractions.
