Shanahan looks at Carkner, Hagelin suspensions
By Bruce Garrioch, QMI Agency

Ottawa Senator Matt Carkner (Tony Caldwell/QMI Agency)

NEW YORK - Brendan Shanahan will be busy Sunday.

The NHL's VP of disicipline is expected to crack down with suspensions because of two incidents in the Senators 3-2 OT victory over the New York Rangers in Game 2 Sunday night.

Senators defenceman Matt Carkner, who sucker-punched New York's Brian Boyle and was thrown out in the first period, will have a hearing Sunday with Shanahan.

Rangers winger Carl Hagelin is also being called up on the carpet for his second period elbow to the head of Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson.

The 39-year-old Alfredsson left the game in the second period and didn't return. There was no update on his condition, but he laid on the ice after the hit and went to the dressing room immediately.

Since Game 3 is tomorrow night at Scotiabank Place, expect Shanahan to hand down his decisions on Carkner and Hagelin later today.
