A fleet of Ottawa taxis is seeing red, and it couldn't be happier.
Capital Taxis has decked out 150 of its 184 cars with Sens paraphernalia ranging from flags and decals to T-shirts for the drivers.
"The guys brought the idea to us and we thought it was great," said Marc Andre Way, senior vice-president of Coventry Connections, which owns Capital Taxis. "We wanted to show support for the team."
The company paid half of the $4,500 it cost to decorate the cars and the drivers paid the rest.
"This year is really special," said Jacques Labaki, president of the union representing the drivers. "We worked really hard to get this done."
Labaki says the Sens fleet cars are a favourite among fans, who habitually flag them down for a ride over other cabs. "All of us (drivers) are newly Canadian," he said. "So we're really watching this series. It's so exciting."
Labaki was in Edmonton last year for the Oilers' Cup run and thinks Ottawans should step up the cheering a notch.
"I'm kind of disappointed," he said. "In Edmonton, the city was nuts."
