Shanahan had Weber suspension penciled in
Zetterberg not hurt, NHL backed offBy QMI Agency
File this under news Detroit Red Wings fans don't want to hear. NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan admitted Monday on a New York radio show that he came close to giving Nashville Predators defenceman Shea Weber a one-game suspension for rattling the head of Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg off the glass in Game 1. But when he found out that Zetterberg was not hurt -- Wings' general manager Ken Holland told him so -- he backed away from the ban and instead fined Weber $2,500. In case anyone missed it, Weber has scored in both games since he tried to put Zetterberg's face through the glass and the Preds earned a split to take a 2-1 series lead.
