NEW YORK - Henrik Lundqvist was determined to keep the New York Rangers season alive.

So that's exactly what he did.

The Rangers goalie made 27 saves to propel his team to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals Sunday at Madison Square Garden and push this best-of-seven first-round playoff series the distance.

"We needed it and I can't wait to go to Washington and play another Game 7," said Lundqvist, who recorded his seventh career playoff shutout. "There was a lot of desperation out there. We showed a lot of character and we worked really hard. The last couple shifts, it was that type of game where we paid the price, big blocks and played physical all night. Great win."

Game 7 goes Monday at Verizon Center.
