UNIONDALE - Sidney Crosby figured he would get about 23 minutes of ice time in his return after being shelved since March 30 with a broken jaw.

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain didn’t expect more than 18 minutes of it to come over the last 40 minutes.

Because of a string of penalties taken by the Penguins in the latter half of the first period of the Pens’ 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders in Game 2 of their opening round series, Crosby was limited to 5:14 in the first period. He played 8:49 in the second and 9:18 in the third as the Penguins searched for a goal.
