Montreal Canadiens starting goalie Carey Price will be out for the rest of the first-round series against the Ottawa Senators due to a lower-body injury, the team announced Thursday.

The announcement comes hours before the Canadiens try to stave off elimination, down 3-1 in the series.

Price did not appear at morning practice and was replaced by Robert Mayer, who has spent most of the season with the Canadiens' farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Price’s backup, Peter Budaj, is slated to get the start in Game 5 on Thursday night. It will be his first career playoff start.

The Slovakian netminder replaced Price in overtime of Game 4 on Tuesday after the star goalie suffered an apparent groin injury. Price left the ice gingerly after making a stop at the end of the third period.

Budaj couldn’t get the job done in overtime, giving up a goal to Kyle Turris just 2:32 into the period to send the Senators to a 3-2 win.
