CHICAGO - Tyler Toffoli was ready for when the opportunity presented itself.

As it happened, that opportunity came Sunday for the Los Angeles Kings forward, inserted into the lineup for Mike Richards, who was a late scratch. Toffoli, 21, took Richards’ spot alongside Jeff Carter and Dustin Penner on the Kings second line.

He went on to score a goal in a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

“I found out after warm-up,” Toffoli said. “But I came here preparing like I was going to play. When (Richards) tested it out, I guess he wasn’t feeling well.
