They may be in the thick of the Stanley Cup final right now, but the Edmonton Oilers still have an eye out for the future.
Starting Monday, the Oilers are holding a prospects camp at Rexall Place where they'll get a firsthand look at their future.
The camp features 24 players and runs through Friday.
"We did it a couple of years ago, but because of the lockout, we haven't done it since," said Oilers vice-president of hockey operations Kevin Prendergast. "It's moreso an orientation for our young players.
"It's what it takes to become a pro. We just want to get them into it, before they come to training camp in September."
Among those attending the camp are Rob Schremp, Devan Dubnyk, Bryan Youngs, Liam Reddox and Marc-Antoine Pouliot. European prospect Jonus Almtorp is also attending.
All the prospects will take part in both on-ice and off-ice sessions. They'll be working with Kelly Buchberger, who will be the Oilers development coach next season.
"We want them to learn what it's going to be to be like an Oiler, how they're going to have to train, how they're going to have to work in order to make the hockey team," Prendergast said.
"It's a new experience for some of them. From an organizational standpoint, we have some really great, young players. Anything that we can do to move it along to get it done faster for them to understand what it takes to get to the NHL is a bonus."
