Flames flag flap
Oil promo has Molson red-faced

Faces at Canada's largest brewery may rival Calgary's famed Red Mile in hue after it disbursed 7,000 Flames flags declaring Molson's support for the team's biggest rivals.

The crimson car flags, modelled after the popular banners that appeared during the Flames 2004 playoff run, were part of a promotion and came in 24-can cases of Molson Canadian at selected outlets.

In addition to the Flaming C emblazoned on the ensign, it carried the Molson Canadian logo and a reminder to not drink and drive.

Unfortunately, at least one eagle-eyed fan noticed the fine print, which reads, "Molson Canadian is a proud sponsor of the Edmonton Oilers."

Molson spokeswoman Babita Khunkhun said yesterday the brewery was unaware of the misprint until one of the flags' recipients noticed the error.

"We're looking into it but it just seems like a mistake," Khunkhun said. "That was the one line we didn't want on it."

Similar flags were given out in Edmonton, but Khunkhun said the unfortunate typo appears to be unique to Calgary and likely is included on all 7,000 flags that were given away.

The promotion has been ongoing for about two weeks and with all the flags disbursed, the brewery had received no complaints until Thursday.

"It's almost illegible but one person noticed," she said.

"What we'll do is replace them for people who have the current version."

People who have the faulty banners can call 1-800-665-7661 to receive a replacement.
