BOSTON - The Chicago Blackhawks had a shocker to start Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final Monday night.

Star winger Marian Hossa was a late scratch for the game at TD Garden as the Hawks and Boston Bruins were set to battle for the series lead, which was knotted at a game apiece.

Hossa is tied for the Hawks playoff scoring lead with 15 points.

Ben Smith, a 24-year-old who played seven games for the Hawks in the playoffs in 2011, but only one regular-season game this year, went into the lineup in Hossa’s spot.

There was no word on the cause for Hossa’s absence.
