BOSTON - It’s tough to imagine all the different kinds of pain Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron was feeling in the aftermath of a stunning loss Monday night that handed the Stanley Cup to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bergeron revealed he suffered a broken rib and muscle and cartilage damage in Game 5 and his trip to the hospital was necessitated because of doctors’ concern for a potential injury to his spleen.

He started Game 6 with those injures and then sustained a separated shoulder.

But the greatest pain might have been seeing the ’Hawks, who scored two goals in the final 76 seconds of Game 6, snatch victory and the Stanley Cup.

“It’s tough to put words to describe how we’re feeling right now. You work so hard to get to this point to give yourself a chance to get the Cup and you feel like you’re right there and you have a chance to force Game 7,” said Bergeron. “It hurts. You’ve got to give credit to Chicago, they played a great series, but at the same time it’s the last thing you want to say, it hurts to see them hoisting the Cup.”

Bergeron wrote himself into the history book of players playing through injuries.

“It’s the Stanley Cup final,” Bergeron said. “Everyone is banged up. Everyone wants to help the team. I couldn’t do that in Game 5. It was mostly because they were worried about my spleen being hurt. That’s why we had to go to the hospital, but everything was fine. It was just the ribs and muscle and soft tissues. I would have liked to have stayed in it, but I was going through a lot of pain.”

Later, Bruins teammate Tyler Seguin said Bergeron also had an issue with his nose.
