VANCOUVER - At 37 years of age, Tim Thomas didn't know if he'd ever have a shot at a Stanley Cup.

"Sure, you wonder. I'm sure every player wonders whether they're going to get the opportunity," the Boston Bruins goalie said Tuesday.

"As we started to have some success earlier this year, the thought does cross your mind, 'Is this the type of team that does have what it takes to win a Stanley Cup?'

"There was no definitive answer at that time."

There is now, thanks to Thomas.

Come Wednesday night, he'll lead the Bruins onto the ice for Game 1 of the 2011 Stanley Cup final against the Vancouver Canucks. It will be a moment he plans to savour.

"I've been waiting a long time for this," he said.
