He has a few nicknames, some of them printable in a mainstream publication.

Even the teammates of Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand have been know to use a four-letter word in referring to the feisty winger.
One nickname that has stuck is "Squirrel."

Huh?

"When I was playing in Providence (the Bruins' AHL farm team) we were in Hershey and it was totally silent in the building for the anthems," Marchand said Thursday as the B's prepped for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal Friday night. "Then some guy started yelling out, 'Hey, Marchand, you're a squirrel, you're a squirrel.' "

The rest, they say, is history.

In addition to Squirrel, Marchand has been called Marshy and Rat.

There was also, for a while, Tomahawk, after he dropped an opponent with a stick to the head when he was a 14-year-old.

Marchand is the Bruins' second-leading scorer in these playoffs but has also given them a physical dimension. He was credited with a team-high seven hits against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 3 Wednesday night, including a big one when he bowled over Ville Leino.

"I was just angry all day," he said. "I don't know why."

Marchand is an accomplished chirper, as well, but he said the talk has been pretty quiet with the Flyers.

"We've got some dirt on them," he said, so the Flyers don't want to go there.
