ANAHEIM - Last summer, Ryan Getzlaf didn't need to be told he was coming off a disappointing season.

It was all there for him to see in black and white.

Not only did the Anaheim Ducks fail to make the playoffs, but the 2011-12 campaign was a disaster on a personal level. Getzlaf, better than a point-per-game centre in each of the previous four seasons, mustered only 11 goals and 57 points in 82 outings.

Out of the disappointment was the determination to return to his potential.

"If you struggle one year, it weighs on you over the summer," said Getzlaf's long-time teammate and close friend Corey Perry. "You want to come out and prove everybody wrong. He's done that."
