Hockey fans in southern California will need to break out the sunscreen.

The Los Angeles Kings will host the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, 2014, as part of the NHL's stadium series next season.

Temperatures in January usually hover around 20C in L.A., generally not ideal for an outdoor hockey game.

"Dodger Stadium has been home to many unique and special moments over the past 51 years," Dodgers president Stan Kasten said. "We'll add another first in 2014 when the Dodger Stadium infield turns to ice as we host our first NHL game between the Kings and the Ducks."

This is the third outdoor game to be made official after it was announced the Toronto Maple Leafs will hook up with Original Six rival Detroit Red Wings at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on New Year's Day.

Additionally, the Pittsburgh Penguins will make a trip west to play the Chicago Blackhawks at Soldier Field on March 1, 2014.
