Selanne: Stanley Cup bigger than Olympic gold
By TERRY JONES, SUN MEDIA

ANAHEIM -- There have been Europeans over the years who have suggested the world championships and, especially, the Olympics meant more than the Stanley Cup.

Not Teemu Selanne.

"The Stanley Cup is by far the biggest. Winning the Stanley Cup is by far the toughest.

"It's the ultimate goal.

"The Olympics is only one game for the gold.

"The Stanley Cup is 30 teams in the league and how much you play and how much you travel. You can go a long time without ever having a chance.

"And you can no longer just go out and find a team to win a Cup. In the last five years who would have picked the teams to end up in the final? Calgary-Tampa? Edmonton-Carolina?

"With a salary cap you just can't go out and buy everybody."

SENS WIN VIDEO CUP

The video game version of the Stanley Cup final ends with the Ottawa Senators becoming the first Canadian team to win the trophy in 13 years.

Vancouver-based Electronic Arts simulated the final using its NHL 2007 game and Ottawa beat the Anaheim Ducks in six games thanks in large part to the strong goaltending of Ray Emery.

Dany Heatley scored the series-winning goal late in Game 6 by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Jason Spezza. The Senators clinched the city's first Stanley Cup since 1927 in front of a soldout crowd at Scotiabank Centre.

The series didn't start so well for Ottawa. Anaheim blanked the Sens 2-0 in the opener on goals from Teemu Selanne and Travis Moen and 31 saves from J-S Giguere.

Ottawa then won the next three games to take control of the series.

A return home helped boost the Ducks in Game 5 as Selanne scored twice in a 4-2 victory before a rowdy crowd at Honda Center.

Ottawa closed out the series at home in Game 6.
