BOSTON - This one was bitter right to the end.

The Montreal Canadiens felt disrespected by the Boston Bruins, slighted by Boston winger Milan Lucic mugging on the bench and flexing his biceps at Montreal defenceman P.K. Subban, Boston winger Shawn Thornton spraying water at Subban and Bruins forward Brad Marchand pulling off the helmet of Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher and flinging it across the ice.

It was a cold handshake line.

Lucic apparently had pointed words for Canadiens forward Dale Weise and defenceman Alexei Emelin. He told both, “I’m going to f---ing kill you next year,” according to multiple reports.

“Milan Lucic had a few things to say to a couple guys and you look at a guy like Shawn Thornton whose been around the league and he plays hard and he plays that role. He had good things to say to everybody. He won with class, and Milan Lucic just couldn’t do that,” said Weise.

“I won’t get into what (Lucic) said. That’s just poor. It’s just a poor way to lose.”

Lucic took exception to Wiese speaking about what was said on the ice.

“It’s said on the ice so it will stay on the ice. If (Weise) wants to be a baby about it he can make it public,” said Lucic.

Lucic wasn’t buying the Habs using the perceived lack of respect as motivation.

“Disrespect? I don’t know what they’re talking about with disrespect. Having a goal celebration, what kind of disrespect is that? I mean ... I’m not going to say anything. I’ve got nothing to say about that.”

Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban said beating the Bruins was the final word.

“There were no kind words in the handshake. I wasn’t expecting that,” he said. “The one thing you have to realize is that respect was earned. Whether you think it was or not, no matter what anybody says or not, they have to respect us and people have to respect us.”
